The following article details a number of ways to troubleshoot SmartMAP for Windows Push Notifications. Should none of the topics below address your issue, please contact APX for assistance.
SmartMAP Didn't Present an "Allow Notifications" Pop-up
If SmartMAP doesn't present an Allow Notifications pop-up, the notification may have already been dismissed (possibly by another user). To enable notifications, complete the following and then set Notifications to Allow:
Google Chrome - Settings > Privacy & Security > Site Settings > Notifications
Microsoft Edge - Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications
Mozilla Firefox - Settings > Privacy & Security > Notifications (under Permissions)
Notifications might also be disabled for the device. In the browser settings, confirm that Sites are allowed to send notifications. To confirm that notifications are enabled for the device, follow the same path above and confirm that sites are allowed to send notifications.
SmartMAP Device not receiving Push Notifications
If you are not receiving Push Notifications from SmartMAP, there could be a number of reasons this is the case.
1) Push Notifications may not be set up yet - Push notifications need to be configured and enabled by APX. If this setup hasn't been completed, contact APX to begin the process of setting up Push Notifications.
2) Push Notifications Might Not Be Allowed - Once Push Notifications are enabled on SmartMAP, users will be prompted on the next SmartMAP access to Allow Push Notifications. If notifications are blocked, they will have to be set to Allow in the browser settings.
Google Chrome - Settings > Privacy & Security > Site Settings > Notifications
Microsoft Edge - Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Notifications
Mozilla Firefox - Settings > Privacy & Security > Notifications (under Permissions)
Once notifications are enabled, Notifications Enabled icon in the SmartMAP menu will change from to .
Push Notification settings might also be restricted by IT. If that's the case, please contact APX for assistance on getting Push Notification restrictions lifted.
3) Focus Assist Settings - Windows Focus Assist is a feature that can block all notifications from apps. These settings can be turned off so that notifications are not being blocked.
4) Network Connectivity Issues - In order to access the data in SmartMAP and receive push notifications, data connectivity is required. Once the data is pulled up in SmartMAP, data connectivity is no longer required to use the data. If you're experiencing connectivity issues, consult with your IT department or try a different network.
SmartMAP Notifications Disappear Too Quickly
SmartMAP notifications are affected by the default settings on a device. By default, this is usually 5 seconds, but can be as long as 5 minutes.
In Windows 10. notification timeout can be adjusted in Settings > Ease of Access > Display, or by opening up Settings and searching "Choose how long notifications are shown".
In Windows 11, you can find these settings in Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects, or by opening up Settings and searching "notifications timeout after".
Once the notification disappears, it can be found in the Action Center in the bottom right of the Windows device on the taskbar.
